With the rise of the internet, anime has become very mainstream. But with all the hype, has this latest form of animation fallen out of favor with other genres? These 15 underrated Shounen anime are just as good as their mainstream counterparts, but are still being overlooked.

There are many shounen anime series that are well known, yet few of them truly deserve the praise they receive. Here are 15 of the best.. Read more about underrated anime 2020 and let us know what you think.I remember thinking a few years ago that I would eventually outgrow the Shonen. What a fool I was. But after seeing classics like My Hero Academia, Attack on Titan and Fullmetal Alchemist, I wanted something more specialized. That’s why I’ve compiled some of the best (and really underrated) shonen anime for anyone who wants something different.

15. Magi: Labyrinth of Magic

word-image-12829 Magi was a breath of fresh air, as it’s pretty rare to find a series with a Middle Eastern theme. It has a very interesting food system that focuses on dungeons and djinns. The fights are also top notch. Especially if Sinbad is involved. And there are many wyfus and husbands to choose from. It’s not often that a prequel to the series can be said to be as good as the original, because now we have the origin story of Sinbad!

14. Blaststorm

This series is unlike anything I’ve seen before. It’s like taking Fairy Tail and adding a little Death Note. At first glance, it seems simple enough: Two boys go in search of a missing girl with the help of an exiled goddess. But after a few episodes, it definitely gets more hectic. The tone changes drastically and it becomes a battle of wits rather than strength, which is always interesting to see.

13. D. Grey male

word-image-12831 Here’s a show that’s pretty popular no matter what. …. but I think a lot of new viewers overlook it because it came out over a decade ago. Unlike a very popular anime like Pokémon, D. Grey-Man has become a bit more obscure. Even if it’s really good. It’s a long shonen of over 100 episodes, with action and an exciting plot. I admit it takes a while to get into it. But once it’s done, you’ll be absolutely delighted. Also, Millennium Earl is terrifying for my younger years.

12. Shaman King

word-image-12832 Shaman King is another old school shonen that has lost its relevance over the years. Still, the reboot is worth watching. So it’s a good time to remember the original anime. Although I prefer the old version for nostalgic reasons, the animation in the reboot is more advanced. And we finally get to see the season finale! The battles in this series are fantastic, and the characters are also very memorable. Whichever version you choose, you’re sure to have a great time.

11. Beelzebub

word-image-12833 Shonen really knows no bounds when it comes to story concepts. And Beelzebub is a perfect example. It’s about a man who just found the demon lord’s baby and has to take care of it. We’ve probably all had that experience. It’s very well written. And more than once I found myself rolling on the floor with laughter, so much so that this show works as a comedy in itself. Of course, there are occasional skirmishes where we see the powers of these adorable baby demons.

10. Hinomaru Sumo

word-image-12834 Again, only in Shonen is sumo wrestling advertised. This anime tells the story of a high school student who decides to become the best sumo wrestler in his school and turn professional. However, he is not as big as some of the opponents he will face. I’ve never seen people push each other with as much enthusiasm and respect as they did in this show. It perfectly reflects the intensity and dedication of each game.

9. Darwin’s Game

word-image-12835 There are many battle royale anime. But I think Darwin’s Game is one of the best examples. They have the classic system where everyone has a unique power, but this series is really creative in terms of everyone’s moves. The strongest guy can materialize weapons, and the best girl knows the position of everything in time and space, just to name a few. The fights are very entertaining, and the show can be very violent at times. This is a very good thing for all my colleagues who deal with the edges.

8. Nanbaka

word-image-12836 Although this series does not belong to the shonen genre, I think it has all the qualities. In fact, it’s one of the most creative and impactful anime I’ve ever seen. Nanbaka is the story of a group of friends who have no choice but to escape from prison. So they are sent to a maximum security prison that looks like Wonderland. And man, what an interesting cast of characters here. From the art style to the unique quirks of all the characters, you’ll be through this series in a day. If only there was a second season, we’d finally know what the damn elf is up to.

7. Silver spoon

word-image-12837 This series is another great example of how anime can make you support something you might find boring. The plot revolves around a man who decides to enroll in an agricultural school because he thinks it will be easy and take him away from his worries. And how wrong he was! Everyone else is 20 steps above him in milking, vegetable knowledge, and chicken 101 philosophy. Now he has to train and work his way up to be the best anyone has ever been, etc. etc. It’s just amazing.

6. Tanks

word-image-12838 Bucky is what JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure could have been if they hadn’t included Stendal. This anime tells the story of a young man named Bucky (who would have thought) and his rise to become the strongest man. Sure, you have the stereotypical tournament runs and rivalries. But what set Bucky apart was his ridiculousness. The men in this show literally have their faces on their backs because they have so much muscle. And these are only the most modest examples.

5. Iron Fortress Cabaneri

word-image-12839 This series is underrated, not so much in terms of popularity, but in terms of concept. Everyone was quick to call it an Attack on Titan clone. And I think she deserves better. Of course, the comparisons are obvious, as the action takes place in a post-apocalyptic world, inside fortress walls with zombies wanting to eat you. But the steampunk style and unsympathetic cast make the series feel like a standalone. So don’t go into this series expecting it to be exactly like Attack on Titan, because that wouldn’t do it justice.

4. Angel of Death

word-image-12840 Is this the most acclaimed and original shonen you’ve ever seen? No. But is it fun? Hell, yeah. The show is reminiscent of Monster of the Week, in which the two main characters walk through a large building full of psychopaths. On each floor they are confronted with someone even crazier than the one they just defeated. And each time we learn new information about the world. It’s pretty funny, and the mindless violence is always conducive to a good viewing experience.

3. Desert Punk

word-image-12841 Desert Punk is one of the best post-apocalyptic series because it doesn’t take itself too seriously. The story takes place in the Kanto desert. Japan has been turned into a pile of sand, and in the film the titular Desert Punk roams the city wreaking havoc and bringing bread to the table. How cool is that? This may be true until the best story girls are within reach. Then he becomes the typical deranged protagonist we all know and probably love. There are still a few fools in the desert. So rest assured, you won’t be bored anytime soon.

2. Toriko

word-image-12842 I’ll be honest: This show is an acid trip in the best sense of the word. It’s about a man who looks like a walking bicep. He tells about his search for the best ingredients the earth has to offer. At first glance, this seems pretty normal, right? Interestingly, in this world, hamburgers come out of the ground and volcanoes are filled with macaroni and cheese. There are also many monsters lurking about. So take any semblance of common sense, throw it out the window, and have fun playing Toriko.

1. Moriarty Patriot

word-image-12843 There were quite a few ridiculous shows on our list. So I thought it would be nice to end with a more serious, down-to-earth show. The patriot Moriarty seeks to defeat the system and change the corrupt British government from within. The series is like a cross between Code Geass and 91 Days. And considering that both series are S-level, you can definitely have hope for this anime. And with the second season looking good, there’s no better time to get involved.I’m sure you’ve all seen the “Top 20 Most Underrated Shounen Anime” posts popping up everywhere on the Internet lately, but most of them aren’t worth your time. With that said, there are some underrated shounen anime that you should definitely check out. These series are underrated because they never got the credit they deserved, or because they’re not that great. Either way, they’re worth watching..
