Some games are made for adults, some for kids, and some are made for everybody. This is a game that, although it is not made for every age group, it is made for everybody. Android has both casual and hardcore games, and with it a huge open source community. One of the games that has made its way on to the top of the charts is Beasts of Maravilla Island, or, as it is called by the Spanish community, “Maravilla’s Beasts”.
While it may seem like a typical fishing game, there is actually a lot of depth to the game and it’s not a game to be taken lightly. There are many different ways to approach your catch, and while it may seem like your goal is to catch the biggest fish, in reality, you will also need to balance the amount of food you are able to catch versus time.
Beasts of Maravilla Island, developed by Banana Bird Studios and published by Whitethorn Digital, is a new 3D adventure in which you play as a young photographer. The game takes place on the mysterious island of Maravilia, where the flora and fauna are unique and completely different from ordinary islands. This short adventure is ideal for players who love photography or just want to explore beautiful places full of magical animals and plants. Here is our review of the movie Beasts of Maravilla Island. We explored this beautiful island and photographed the amazing flora and fauna. The main gameplay of Beasts of Maravilla Island consists of shooting and exploring the beautiful island of Maravilla. Many surprises await you on the mysterious island, and you will know as soon as you land. Unlike most stories, this is not an island hidden from the world in the middle of a storm. The island is remote and far away, but we arrive by commercial ship and this shows that the island is easily accessible to people. You play as a young photographer who is tasked by her grandfather to fill his diary with photos of the island’s flora and fauna and to share the beauty of the island with the world. As soon as you land on the island, you can see that the island is truly beautiful. I loved the design of the island and how colorful and vibrant it looked. Everything, from the flora to the fauna of the island, seems in place and in perfect harmony. Nothing on the island stands out or seems strange. The flora and fauna are certainly unique, and most of them are combinations of different animals we encounter in the real world. As soon as you arrive, grab your camera and start photographing the different types of flora and fauna found on the island. The island is divided into several zones, and each zone has a main species living there. This same area is also home to many other creatures such as beetles, butterflies, bats, flowers and many other species that belong to both flora and fauna. Your goal is to fill out a diary in which you only need to record the common flora and fauna and one photo will suffice for the collection, but for the most important species you will need to find them and record them during certain actions such as mating rituals, dancing or others. In your diary you record everything you make and you can see all your photos. Each type of flora and fauna has 20 photos, but you can flip through them and delete the ones you don’t need to get more photos. Each area has small, easy to solve puzzles that give you access to the next area, but nothing is too difficult and the game is extremely relaxing. You can easily go through the entire game and finish it 100% in 2.5 hours. In some puzzles, you also have to interact with different animals and help them in different activities. For example, I once had to help a pair of rainbow quetzal monkeys complete their mating dance by lighting the area with a plant. Simple puzzles like this allow for interaction with the various animals on the island, because if you help the animals, they help you. You can keep a log of all the photos you want to keep and delete the ones you don’t. Maravilla Island is fairly linear, and you have to follow a certain path to progress in the game. In some areas, you can explore additional areas where you can interact with other animals and even unlock some cool Easter eggs. For example, on the first level I got to sing with the Rainbow Crest Quetzal monkeys, and once they made friends with me, the whole family came out to give me a show. The little things found here and there on the island add up to a solid experience. There is not a single thing in the game that can cause stress. On the contrary, the game can easily relieve stress after a long, hectic day with its light gameplay and soothing visuals. The game also has some platforming elements, such as places where you have to climb over lianas and move across small platforms to reach areas in front of you, but nothing is difficult. Taking pictures in the game is easy: You can walk around with the camera and when you find something new, the game tells you if it’s an animal or plant that’s new to you or if you’ve photographed it before. As for the technical aspect of the game, there are a few hiccups. Starting with the most obvious: character management. It’s a little clunky here and there and a little more refinement would have improved the mechanism. The character tends to get stuck in certain places, then after a few uncomfortable moments you are freed from those places. They are extremely rare on the main trails, but if you wander around a bit, you will often come across invisible barriers. Throughout the game, I didn’t find a single bug that impeded gameplay, and I was able to easily finish the game in one sitting. Since few skills are required to complete the game, the completion time for most players will be within the same 2 hour time frame. The sound design is also good and you really feel like you are in a jungle or exploring a river. I didn’t encounter any visual issues in the game, although the characters looked a little blurry in places, but that may be due to the visual design of the game. Overall, these minor problems that occur here and there do not detract from the game’s excellent gameplay.
Beasts of Maravilla Island is an incredible experience, and the only problem with the game is that it’s too short. It’s either because you’re so immersed in the game that you keep playing it, or because it eventually ends and you want more. The game itself is great and not too short, but the level of immersion makes the game feel really small. The world is beautiful and vibrant, and the colorful flora and fauna are also beautifully detailed. The effortless and highly addictive gameplay is perfect if you want to relax and enjoy a fun game. Beasts of Maravilla Island is designed for a wide range of players. For those who like to explore and take pictures, this is the perfect game. I really hope the developer releases a sequel or similar game in the future. Highly recommended!
Final score: 9.0/10
