Owners of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 and 3090 graphics cards have a new tool to help them keep an eye on the temperature. EKWB has announced the first actively cooled backplanes for these GPUs, which are known to generate a significant amount of heat under heavy load. These backplanes are compatible with the EK-Quantum Vector RE RTX 3080/3090 waterblocks manufactured for the reference boards.
The backplane completes the GPU cooling by directly cooling all hotspots on the board, such as the back of the GPU core and the VRM. A new louvre grille with six wide channels provides low flow restriction to achieve lower operating temperatures with better heat transfer. The CNC-milled base is made of electrolytically nickel-plated copper. The upper or outer shell is made of glassy cast acrylic or black POM acetal. The rest of the rear panel is nickel-plated or anodised aluminium and does not come into contact with the coolant. The terminals are made of acrylic or acetal with high quality EPDM O-rings.
For those looking for extra sparkle, the acrylic model also features a D-RGB LED strip with eight individually addressable RGB LEDs. The black acetal model has no RGB. Both ships are expected to set sail in April 2021. The acrylic model has a price tag of $149.99 and the acetal model has a price tag of $144.99. Both can be found here.
