EVGA Blames GeForce RTX 3090 New World Failures on Soldering Issue

EVGA is on the scene with a new generation of graphics cards from the GeForce RTX family that is touted to deliver on its promise of a new reality for gaming. The company is confident that the GeForce RTX 3090 New World will be a hit, but not everyone is seeing things the same way.

EVGA has admitted that its new GeForce RTX graphics cards are experiencing problems, and the company has just admitted that it is to blame. According to EVGA, the RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 cards don’t work well with memory modules, and this is causing the issues. The company has blamed the issues on a particular type of memory module and says that it is sending out replacement memory modules to users, along with a free BIOS update. However, the company has also admitted that the issue is actually due to a faulty manufacturing process, and has admitted that it will be offering refunds to customers.

Back in July, many beta testers claimed that Amazon’s New World MMO fried their pricey graphics cards, causing some controversy. A significant number of the cards impacted seemed to be EVGA’s GeForce RTX 3090 variants, and the firm has finally revealed why.

EVGA cited a “rare soldering problem” for the failure of their GeForce RTX 3090 graphics cards when running New World in a statement to PCWorld. The afflicted cards had “poor craftsmanship” on soldering around the MOSFET circuits, according to an X-ray examination.

EVGA did not say how many GeForce RTX 3090 graphics cards it has sold so far, although it is believed that the faulty batch accounts for fewer than 1% of total shipments. Despite claims that New World was bricking various types of GeForce cards, including AMD Radeon models, all of the failures reported to the firm concerned GeForce RTX 3090 devices.

In late July, Igor’s Lab released a report claiming that EVGA GeForce RTX graphics cards were failing owing to a fan controller issue. A business representative has refuted the notion, claiming that it is untrue.

“It has nothing to do with the fan controller,” he said emphatically.

The New World beta in issue lacked a frame rate restriction in the menu system, which is something that many published games include. This may lead a GPU to go from 100 frames per second in-game to 800 frames per second. It’s like driving a vehicle up a hill at full speed then inadvertently shifting into neutral.
