Final Fantasy XIV’s savage raiding may be scary, therefore anybody venturing into Pandemonium for the first time will most likely begin with Erichthonios, the PS1 boss. This battle may seem insane at first, but once broken down, it becomes forgiving and simple to master.
The ability “Intemperance” divides the area into nine tiles and assigns each player in the group the task of solving the problem in the tile allotted to them. Every tile on the east and west sides will contain a purple cube as the second drop, which will kill any player standing in the tile when it falls, making purple the only color not absorbed by people. The south and north tiles, along with the center tile, will not contain a purple cube and will be utilized by everyone to resolve the problem during the second cube drop. The second drop for the south tile will always be a blue cube, whereas the second drop for the north tile will always be a red cube.
The object of the puzzle is for you to stand in a certain tile and get struck by the first element. The boss may make either the top or bottom cube fall first, and he’ll signal which one by lighting up his raised or lowered hand. However, for the mechanic, this is basically unimportant. Each player must stand on their tile and examine the colors of the top and bottom cubes. When the purple one goes off on their tile, the player will be hit by the first color and then proceed to the middle tile where there are no cubes for the second drop.
If the cubes are the same element color, the player will soak their first cube drop before travelling to the southern tile for the second drop, unless the element they just soaked was fire. They will go to the north tile for the second drop if the element was ice. The monster will cast Warden’s Wrath between each drop, giving them enough time to move for the second cube drop site and then return to their tile in time.

When dealing with their cubes, the players allocated to the North and Northwest tiles have one more step to look out for. If the south tile holds three ice cubes, the two players will deal with their own tiles as if they were everyone else’s. The two players will switch tiles for the third cube drop if the south tile contains a fire cube at the bottom. For the third drop, the northwest player will soak the north tile, and the north player will soak the Northwest drop.

When the boss performs Intemperance for the second time, there is a new mechanic to look out for, although it doesn’t affect the problem much other than where the player must stand exactly after the second cube falls. The boss will use the Gaoler’s Flail ability, which launches a spiked ball or chakram followed by the opposite. If the spiked ball is the first to appear, the players must ensure that they are out of the monster’s hitbox as soon as the second cube appears, and then rush as near to the boss as possible without leaving their current tile. When the ability activates, they must return to their allocated tile for the last cube drop. If the chakram appears first, the player must do the reverse and get as near to the second cube drop as feasible in their current tile, then exit the boss’s hitbox before returning to their allocated tile to resolve the final cube drop.
Although this may seem to be a lot of knowledge, the only way to master it is to practice it in real time. It is much more difficult to comprehend while fighting than it is to read and explain it. Choreography is learned via practice, just as in real life.
