If they really want this game to survive long-term, they need to start maximizing enjoyment, not play time

Some might argue that the definition of a game is limited to its length, but playtime only tells part of the story. One way developers can make games more fun and enticing for players is by focusing on maximizing enjoyment rather than play time. Games like Fortnite seem to be doing this well with their constant variety of new content and events driving engagement long-term.

The “is world of warcraft still popular 2021” is a question that many people ask. The answer to this question depends on what the person means by “popular”. If they mean how much money the game makes, then it’s not as popular as it used to be. However, if they mean how much enjoyment people are getting out of the game, then World of Warcraft is still very popular.

On one of the several posts here, there was a remark that was absolutely correct. It was because, in recent expansions, they haven’t made an effort to ensure that gamers are having a good time. No, they’ve been attempting to get us to spend as much time as possible in the game in the hopes of keeping us subscribing, while in reality it has the opposite effect.

Here are a few things they’ve done in recent expansions to make the game more difficult and unpleasant for players:

  • Pre-patch invasion experience for the legion has been reduced. Obviously, this is no longer a problem, but it was a major smack in the face at the time. Legion pre-patch invasions were proving to be a great way for players to level up. As a result, they nerfed it, making it impossible for players to level in this manner. Cry was ridiculous, to be sure. The bulk of the gamers complained every day on the forums and on Reddit until they eventually restored part of the experience. However, it wasn’t quite as fantastic as it had been at first.

  • Bear tartare and other speed enhancements were nerfed, which were great for conquering old legacy raids. They eliminated the advantage of them after understanding how many people loved the speed, thus we could no longer utilize it to enjoy heritage raids. Potions are also quite difficult to come by, and they don’t seem to improve your speed as much as they used to.

  • Legendary items in the Legion. They were initially entirely random, and some of them were best in slot or incredibly overpowering, such as boots or other things that could significantly improve your movement speed. There’s no way to acquire them other than to play for thousands of hours in the hopes of getting one. They eventually gave in and added a coin to the game that guaranteed you a new legendary item for your class.

  • BFA Heart of Azeroth is a game that takes place in the world of Azeroth. Everyone despised this horrific system. I don’t believe there was much public support for it. It was excruciatingly sluggish in the start of the expansion, and if you didn’t complete every single daily task and weekly activity, you’d fall behind. Worse, if you were leveling another alt character, you were penalized because of how lengthy and terrible the process was.

  • Lines of quests from BFA, Legion, and Shadowlands. It took a lot of pleading, begging, and resigning to get them to include alt character skips. Even in Shadowlands, there aren’t enough of them to make leveling a fresh new alt worthwhile.

  • Covenants of the Shadowlands They disregarded all Legion and BFA comments and created the identical stake for the third time. Everyone despised them in beta, and there were genuine issues about them. Consistent and recurrent feedback was given. As a consequence, all user input was entirely rejected, ridiculed, and shunned, and Shadowlands debuted as a complete disaster, which continues to haunt the game to this day. Even today, you can’t easily switch covenants without maxing up one character’s renown. This must be done for each alternative character as well, making it an excruciatingly painful and frustrating experience.

  • Raids with a history. They’re meant to be unpleasant all around, with no speed boosters permitted and a poor loot probability. You’ll give in and simply go to the shop and buy either a token to purchase some of the gear off the auction house, or some of the cosmetic gear that is currently on the auction house, as unfun and as possible.

It’s as though they don’t learn anything. They just continue to make the same errors and do the same things that others despise, preferring to make life unpleasant rather than maximize delight.

  • This game encourages poor performance.

GAH, I’m so sick of it, why does WG do nothing to encourage smart play? I’ve lost ten games in a row today because every single team’s top tiers in nice tanks have decided that the best thing for them to do is camp in situations where they only have…

  • I’d want to play the game, but I’m not interested in doing so.

I know, strange title, but that’s how I’m feeling about Overwatch right now. I enjoy the game a lot, I truly do. The game’s mechanics are really enjoyable. Whether you spam your rein with heals as ana to charge your ultimate in 30 seconds or click heads as Hanzo/McCree to obtain a…

  • Do not make this game free to play, Bethesda.

Gaming writers have speculated that this game would be better off as a free-to-play title in the future. All I want to say is don’t do it! Fallout with free-to-play mechanisms would be the greatest smack in the face, ultimately forcing you to spend more money to really enjoy the game.
