Marvel Studios never reached out to Tom Cruise for the role of Superior Iron Man because he was unavailable. The actor would go on to win an Oscar and a Golden Globe, with Marvel Studios executives responding by saying “I’m sorry if that disappointed you.”
Tom Cruise was offered the role of Superior Iron Man, but Marvel Studios never reached out to him because he was unavailable. This is due to availability.

One of the most rumored aspects of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was that it would include a cameo appearance by Tom Cruise, who was once considered for the role of Tony Stark before Robert Downey Jr. stepped in and paved the way for Marvel Studios’ wildly successful cinematic universe. Unfortunately, Cruise was never cast in the picture, and screenwriter Michael Waldron has addressed why in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, emphasizing that the concept was fine but that it was just a rumor and that Marvel Studios never contacted Cruise. He would have turned it down anyhow, according to the notion, since he was too busy shooting his newest Mission: Impossible flicks. Cruise was expected to feature in the next Doctor Strange picture as Superior Iron Man, an evil version of the superhero who donned silver armor, according to fans.

Fans were correct in their assessment of Patrick Stewart as an alternative Professor X, but incorrect in their assessment of Tom Cruise as an alternate Iron Man, despite the fact that he had been cast in the role years before Robert Downey Jr. Did the Tom Cruise rumor originate with the fans? That was all made up. There’s no chopped footage of Tom Cruise, for example! But I like Tom Cruise, and I once inquired of [Marvel Studios president] Kevin [Feige], “Could we have Tom Cruise’s Iron Man?” Back in the day, I recall reading in Ain’t It Cool News that Tom Cruise was going to play Iron Man.
So the fans made it all up, but you attempted to make it up as well, is what you’re saying? That’s right. I thought to myself when it was being discussed online, “Yeah, that’d be awesome!”
So, when you asked Kevin that question, what did he say? He was filming Mission Impossible 7 and 8 after all.
So, just to be clear, did anybody contact Tom Cruise? No, I don’t think so. Because of availability, I don’t believe it was ever a possibility.
