Making a magic potion

The idea in Potion Party is to make potions as fast as you can and sell them to your customers to earn gold and grow your humble porch shop. This is a fast-paced action game for up to four players. If you’re like me and don’t have any playmates, there’s also a single player mode for you.

There is no manual, but you can read the game instructions that the game gives in the form of pictures, and they will tell you everything you need to know. When you open your case, it will be empty and exhausted. Your job is to equip the shop with furniture, tools and decorations. Gradually, your shop will improve and offer more opportunities to make different drinks. Each new level contains new items to use and challenges to overcome over the course of about 5-10 hours of play.

Unlock symbols

While playing, you can unlock up to 12 different and impressive characters in the game. Each character has a unique special ability that makes them valuable for certain tasks. These skills can also be upgraded to become stronger. Griffith, for example, is the best at making potions because he can make them much faster than other characters. You can also unlock Zeph, a quick multitasker who can zoom from A to B to help in the store.

There are different sizes and colors of brewed beverages. You do this with water to grow exotic fruits, you pick the fruits and put them in a mortar and pestle to powder them. You put the powder and water in the brewer and after a while you have a ready drink. If customers want a different color drink, for example. B. If you want green, just mix yellow and blue. If they are looking for a black magic potion, they must make charcoal by burning exotic fruits in an oven which turns them into charcoal and adds them to the potion.

Keeping the customer in mind

Customers come and go at the potion party, and if I wasn’t helping a customer, I used the time to make some potions and keep them on hand. The next time a customer needed a drink, sometimes I already had it on hand. You can make candies to give to customers who have to wait a little longer to extend their waiting time. It also makes them look cute (pun intended) while waiting!

It’s great fun to storm into your workshop and brew potions, but you have to stay alert to keep up with the pace of the game. Thinking of and making a few potions is a big help in making and completing a level.

Beware of intruders

But not everything in the party drink is sweet and light, because you have to know the samples. All kinds of monsters such as slimeballs, ghosts and thieves invade your shop and try to put an end to your activities. You have to treat everyone differently to get rid of them. To remove the slime, put a little powder of the same color on the slime and poof, it dissolves. When ghosts appear, they hover over the screen and if you touch one, the controls reverse. And throwing a bucket of water on a thief makes him disappear.

With the gold you earn, you can upgrade your alchemy shop. Add mortars and pestles or flower pots to grow more fruit.

Methods of cooperation and more

Brew potions with 4 friends in co-op mode, or play against them in enemy mode to crown the best alchemist in the group. I managed to convince my non-gamer partner to play Potion Party in couch versus couch mode, where we had a lot of laughs and fun.

The 4-player cooperative multiplayer mode is also playable, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to try it. Maybe online multiplayer can be added in a later update, because I think that would be a great addition to the game. I imagine with four players the drinking game will be very chaotic, but also very entertaining.

Aids and visual controls

Potion Party is a bright and colorful party with a retro style and vibrant art style. The soundtrack is catchy and fits the pixelated graphics perfectly.

Controlling your character in Potion Party couldn’t be simpler, as there’s only one button and one analog stick. The game runs well on the Nintendo Switch, I didn’t notice any frame rate issues as the game runs smoothly.

I had fun with Potion Party, the game was interesting enough for my non-gaming partner to play. Although it’s a relatively short game, you’ll have a lot of fun playing it with a group of friends. The ordering system is available for all age groups, so even the youngest family members can participate in the potion parties.

Final Judgment : I love the party.
