BOSTON — A sage warning says nothing good occurs after 2 a.m. The identical appears to apply after two outs towards the Boston Red Sox this postseason.

Closing time proved elusive for the Dodgers in Game 2 of the World Series at Fenway Park. The Red Sox scored all of their runs after there have been two outs in an inning – three back-breakers in the fifth inning – and handed the Dodgers a Four-2 loss Wednesday night time.

The collection now strikes to Dodger Stadium with the Dodgers down two video games to none. Video games three, Four and 5 are scheduled for L.A. – however the Dodgers could have to snuff out the Red Sox’s two-out magic if they’re going to prolong the collection that far.

With the Game 2 win, 38 of the Red Sox’s 68 runs in 11 postseason video games have scored with two outs in an inning. They’re batting a exceptional .363 (33 for 91) general with runners in scoring place. The Dodgers can’t sustain with that. They’ve gone 2 for 10 with runners in scoring place in the primary two video games of the collection and an equally exceptional (in its personal approach) 18 for 94 (.191) general this postseason – numbers extra fitted to a dropping streak in June than a run to a World Series title.

They did get their clutch engaged in the fourth inning towards Sox starter David Worth.

After back-to-back singles by David Freese and Manny Machado and a stroll to Chris Taylor loaded the bases with no outs, Matt Kemp drove in one run with a sacrifice fly. After slumping Kiké Hernandez ended a nine-pitch at-bat by putting out, Yasiel Puig slapped Pricess subsequent pitch into middle area for an RBI single. That gave the Dodgers their first lead of the collection, 2-1.

They warmed themselves round that for all of an inning.

The Dodgers’ makes an attempt to name Hyun-Jin Ryu “a big-game pitcher” appeared harking back to Tommy Lasorda hanging the nickname “Bulldog” on Orel Hershiser – born out of a want to make actuality match the label.

For 4 innings it labored. Ryu allowed one run in the second inning – on a two-out RBI single by Ian Kinsler. Issues might have gotten worse that inning however Taylor threw Kinsler out from left subject when he tried to go first to third on one other two-out hit by Jackie Bradley Jr.

Ryu retired eight of the subsequent 9 Red Sox batters — together with the primary two in the fifth inning.

Because the clock struck two, issues escalated. No. 9 hitter Christian Vazquez singled on a 1-and-2 pitch. Mookie Betts singled by means of the center and Andrew Benintendi labored Ryu for eight pitches, drawing a stroll to load the bases.

Wanting to defuse the state of affairs, Dodgers supervisor Dave Roberts minimize the incorrect wire. He introduced in Ryan Madson.

In the course of the NLDS and NLCS rounds, Madson entered video games with a complete of seven runners on base. He stranded all however one (together with a bases-loaded state of affairs in Game Four towards the Braves).

Roberts has gone to him in every of the primary two video games of the World Series with a complete of 5 runners on base. All 5 have scored.

Madson walked the primary batter he confronted Wednesday, Steve Pearce, on 5 pitches. That introduced in the tying run and J.D. Martinez to the plate.

Earlier than the sport, Madson described the hazard of pitching to Martinez as akin to being “in a pit with a rattlesnake and one bad move you’ll get bit.”

As soon as bitten, twice scored – Martinez singled to proper, driving in two runs.

That was the decisive swing. The Red Sox bullpen adopted Worth’s six innings with three hitless innings from Joe Kelly, Nathan Eovaldi and Craig Kimbrel to shut it out. The ultimate 16 Dodgers went down in order because the chilly, damp night grew colder and damper.

The Sox have now gained eight of their final 9 World Series video games at Fenway Park. There won’t be one other this fall.
