Review – Space Jam: A New Legacy – The Game

When the movie Space Jam was released back in 1996, it was a huge hit. Not only did it gain a cult following, but it gave us a glimpse of what could potentially be in store for the future of gaming. But can Space hater Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny truly bring the magic back to gaming?

Space Jam is a basketball video game developed and published by Rocksteady Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. In an ideal world this game would be great but it is quite simply one of the worst games I have ever played. Taking the series back to the arcade setting, the game presents a number of modes, including free play, career mode, and a “Classic League” mode.

Space Jam: A New Legacy is a very fun and enjoyable game. The game is very easy to get into, but the levels offer many different obstacles and tricks to overcome. The graphics are smooth and the sound is well done. The only real complaint I have is that the game ends too fast. The game offers a decent amount of content, but it is very short and does not offer a lot of replay value.. First: Why was this title exclusive to the Xbox, and by that I mean a true Xbox exclusive, without releasing a PC version? Second: As far as I know, the basic idea for the game came from a fan poll….. Why did the developers at Digital Eclipse decide to make a beat em up based on a sports series? I guess we’ll never know what these things are, but the game is already available to Gamepass Ultimate owners, and other Xbox users will be able to play it on the 15th. Juli has access to it. Despite some flaws, it’s not that bad.

Look, it would be much more fun if the game had voices.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a free-to-play game that can be played out in just half an hour, but given the rushed development cycle of licensed games, I honestly think Space Jam: A New Legacy – The Game could have been much worse. Especially given the usual disregard for the fact that such games are ultimately good in their own right and not just a money grab.

As mentioned earlier, it’s a simple beat’em up, similar to what Digital Eclipse developed in the early to mid-2000s. It looks, sounds, plays and feels like a Game Boy Advance game, and that’s good and bad in equal measure. The controls of the game are very simple and can be mastered in seconds: You have an attack button, a jump button, and a card button that allows you to unlock a small perk by filling a bar, for example. B. Restore health, increase speed… Finally, if you jump and attack at the same time, you have a desperation attack that hits all enemies around you, but at the cost of some of your health.

In this game, LeBron doesn’t jump and dive as much as he does in real life.

That’s pretty much the essence of the game. Choose Bugs Bunny, Lola Bunny or LeBron James, play alone or with two friends and discover everything the game has to offer in half an hour. There are no puzzles or platform sections. The game has four levels, divided into different stages, and at the end of each level there is an end boss. For reasons I don’t understand (remember the movie isn’t out yet, and I don’t know if this is a spoiler or not), Anthony Davis plays the boss nicknamed Brow. I thought he was going to help his Lakers teammate, but he didn’t.

I don’t mind that the game is so short, because Microsoft, Warner Games and Digital Eclipse aren’t trying to sell you anything. What ultimately disappointed me, aside from the odd decision to turn a sports series into a beat ’em up, was the overall production value of the game. Remember when I called the Game Boy Advance game an Xbox S/X Series game? That goes for the visuals and especially for the very poor sound design, which consists of half a dozen MIDI loops and a few heavily compressed voice clips from Bugs, Lola and who I assume is LeBron. In full screen, the game is ugly and stretched, but there is an option to set the aspect ratio to 4:3, which makes it much more appealing, despite the flimsy backgrounds and enemies.

These despair techniques are powerful and useful, but you must devote part of your life to them.

I don’t think anyone was expecting Space Jam: A New Legacy – The Game is going to be great. Let’s face it, it’s a marketing ploy. It should draw your attention to the new movie and give you a few minutes of fun and easy success. That said, I expected much worse. That’s good for what it is. I still think there’s no reason for a Space Jam-based beat’em up, but overall there are worse ways to spend half an hour of your time. Plus, it’s much better than the awful Ben-Hur credits that came out on Xbox One a few years ago …..

Decent character models contrast with simple backgrounds and repetitively designed enemies. I suggest you play it in 4:3 mode, which is available in the options menu.Although there is only one attack button, one jump button and one map button, the game works and controls pretty well. There are no combos here, but you can juggle enemies in the air and also use a basketball as a ranged weapon.
Space Jam: A New Legacy – The Game looks like a game for the Game Boy Advance with its low-quality MIDI soundtrack and heavily compressed voice clips. It can be prepared in just half an hour. It’s not the best beat’em up in the world, but it’s not the worst either. It’s just that… There’s little that sets it apart, other than the novelty associated with Space Jam.
Final decision: 6.5

Space Jam: A New Legacy – The Game is already available on Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X.

The test will be conducted on the Xbox Series S.
