The hardest time to choose a deck for your Harpie archetype is just after you have already built a deck. There is no point in buying more cards for your Harpie deck, since you already have a great deck that works. But, after your next big tournament, you’ll probably have a lot of Harpie cards lying around that you are not using because you don’t have enough room to store them.
Harpies are like the most easily identifiable archetype in Magic. They’re the swarm-ish card in the format, with the ability to swarm opponents out of the game. But what is the best Harpie deck? We compare cards from Standard, Modern, and Legacy decks and see if any of them are the best for the archetype. In the Yu-Gi-Oh TV show, Mai Valentine used a Harpie deck and famously used perfume on her cards so she always knew what she would draw next.
Granted you probably can’t pull that trick in a real match, but Harpie decks have come a long way since then.
And these cards have some fantastic ways to dismantle your opponent.
Trust me, fellow duelist, Harpies are strong enough to win – no matter what your cards smell like.
And in this list I’ll be showing you the very best Harpie cards out there.
15. Harpie Lady
The original Harpie Lady may have no effects, and honestly pretty terrible stats for a LVL4 at 1300 ATK/1400 DEF…
But there’s still a very good reason to include this monster in your deck.
Harpie decks want to swarm the board with monsters, and there are a few incredibly powerful Harpie monsters that will use this card’s level 4 status to the fullest.
Harpie Lady also has great synergy with the next card on this list, so it’s really a staple for the deck as a whole.
14. Unexpected Dai
Let’s face it:
Who doesn’t want free access to their combo starters?
While not strictly a Harpie card, Unexpected Dai is great to get more Harpie Lady’s on the field when you need them most.
With this card, if you control no monsters, you can Special Summon a LVL4 Normal Monster from your deck.
So yep, you guessed it, Harpie Lady is the prime target.
This may not sound like much on its own. But it’s an easy way to bring out some dangerous monsters that feature much higher on this list.
13. Harpie Queen
Want a nice bit of ATK to go with a free field spell?
Silly question, I know.
Harpie Queen is a LVL4 card with a respectable 1900 ATK/1200 DEF. And like many Harpie monsters, this card’s name becomes “Harpie Lady” while it’s on the field.
So any effects that work on Harpie Lady work on this card too.
You can also discard Harpie Queen to add Harpies’ Hunting Ground to your hand. But why would you do that?
Let me show you:
12. Harpies Hunting Ground
Most field spells add a bit of ATK/DEF, or maybe negate a bit of damage.
But there aren’t many that slam your opponent’s back row like this one.
Harpies’ Hunting Ground gives all Winged Beasts an additional 200 ATK/DEF. Which isn’t much, but it does push cards like Harpie Queen up to 2100 – which is pretty high for a LVL4.
This Field Spell’s 2nd effect is far more exciting though, as every time a Harpie Lady is Summoned, you can target and destroy a Spell/Trap.
This works for your opponent if they play Harpies too (although unlikely). But if it comes to that, good luck in a mirror match!
11. Harpie’s Pet Phantasmal Dragon
Don’t let the ‘pet’ in this card’s name fool you.
This XYZ monster is incredibly dangerous, and it’s one that your opponent will wish you kept on a leash.
Harpie’s Pet Phantasmal Dragon requires three LVL4 wind monsters as material, and loses one of those materials on each of your end phases.
While it has material, though, this monster can attack directly. And with 2000 ATK/2500 DEF it can take quite the bite out of your opponent’s Life Points.
They’ll probably wish you gave it a muzzle too!
10. Elegant Egotist
Harpie decks are fantastic at swarming the field with monsters and overwhelming your opponent with sheer numbers.
And this is a great support card to help you do that.
Elegant Egotist is a spell that makes sure your Harpies never fight alone. Because if a Harpie Lady is on the field, you can play this to Special Summon a Harpie Lady or Harpie Lady Sisters from your hand or deck.
Elegant Egotist also works perfectly with the next entry on our list:
9. Harpie Perfumer
If it was even possible, this monster makes the great combo potential of Harpies even better.
Harpie Perfumer is a LVL4 monster with 1400 ATK/1300 DEF, but its strength is in its effect. This lets you add a Spell/Trap to your hand that lists “Harpie Lady Sisters”.
So in other words, it gives you a free Elegant Egotist.
If you control a LVL5 or higher “Harpie” monster, you can also add a second such card to your hand, as long as its name is different to the first card.
Harpie Perfumer is fantastic for this kind of deck, and gives you access to almost any Extra Deck monster you could want.
8. Alluring Mirror Split
In the battle phase, your opponent will want to destroy all of your monsters so they can take a clear shot at your life points.
This card can make that impossible.
Alluring Mirror Split is a great Continuous Spell that lets you Special Summon a Harpie monster from your deck when one of your Harpie Lady or Harpie Lady Sisters gets destroyed in battle.
The monster you Special Summon has to have a different name to the card that was destroyed, but in a deck full of Harpies, that’s never going to be an issue.
And when this spell card is destroyed, you can Special Summon a Harpie monster from your Graveyard.
You can even destroy the card yourself if there’s a monster you really want back!
7. Harpie Harpist
Monsters that are immune to destruction can be a huge problem, as ultimately, there’s not much you can do to get rid of them.
Fortunately, Harpie decks have a very easy out to these kinds of effects.
Harpie Harpist is a great LVL4 monster with 1700 ATK/600 DEF, and when it’s Summoned you can target one of your Winged Beast monsters, plus one of your opponent’s monsters, and return them to the hand.
This card also lets you add a monster to your hand during the end phase when it hits the Graveyard – but the instant boss monster removal effect is why this card is so powerful.
6. Harpie Channeler
Some cards offer incredible utility.
And this card is so good that you’ll want to see it in every opening hand.
Harpie Channeler is a LVL4 with 1400 ATK/1300 DEF, and it’s a searcher for a Harpie deck.
You can discard a Harpie card to Special Summon any Harpie monster from your deck in defense position – which is usually an instant XYZ or Synchro Summon.
With this card effect, the level of whatever monster you summon becomes 7 if you control a Dragon – and it’s also called ‘Harpie Lady’ when it’s on the field.
Harpie Channeler really is the best combo starter this deck has to offer. And because of that, you’ll absolutely want 3 in your deck!
5. Cyber Slash Harpie Lady
Easy to summon, good ATK/DEF, and monster removal without destruction.
This magnificent Harpie boss monster does it all.
Cyber Slash Harpie Lady is a dangerous LVL8 Synchro Monster with 2600 ATK/1400 DEF and is very easy to bring out, as you can use any Harpie monster as a Tuner.
And I mean, this whole deck revolves around filling the field with monsters. So you can usually bring this card out on your first turn.
When a Spell/Trap or effect is activated, you can then target one of your opponent’s monsters or one of your Harpies and return them to the hand.
This is a quick effect as well, so you can use it on your opponent’s turn to make sure their strategies never get off the ground.
4. Harpie’s Feather Storm
If you want effect negation from your hand and access to one of the most powerful cards in the game, well look no further than this incredibly powerful trap.
Harpie’s Feather Storm negates all monster effects that your opponent activates, which can end a lot of combos.
The best part is that you can play this card directly from your hand if you control a Harpie monster, which you almost always will.
And if this card gets destroyed in the Spell/Trap zone, you can add Harpie’s Feather Duster (we’ll get to that card soon) to your hand from either the deck or Graveyard.
If your opponent uses a Spell/Trap heavy deck, there’s nothing worse!
3. Barrier Statue Of The Stormwinds
If you don’t just want to win, but want to push your opponent to scoop their cards up and leave, play this card.
Barrier Statue Of The Stormwinds is a LVL4 Winged Beast monster with 1000 ATK/1000 DEF. Pretty weak at a glance, but its effect locks out any Special Summons unless they’re for a Wind monster.
This sort of restriction can cripple most decks, all while your Harpies overwhelm the field.
Now you may be thinking, with 1000 ATK & DEF this monster is easy to just flatten. And you would be right… if the next card on this list didn’t exist.
2. Simorgh Bird Of Sovereignty
If it makes you feel any better, just keep telling yourself that you’re playing to win, not playing to make friends.
Because if you put this in your deck and bring it out, friendship was never an option.
Simorgh Bird Of Sovereignty is a Link-3 with 2400 ATK and is very easy to bring out in a Harpie deck.
And your opponent cannot target this card, or a Winged Beast that this card points to, with effects.
So this is the perfect monster to protect your Barrier Statue with!
During your end phase, you can also Special Summon a Winged Beast from your hand or deck with a level equal to or lower than the amount of your unused Spell/Trap zones.
So this gives yet another way to give easy access to LVL4’s… If your opponent didn’t give up already.
1. Harpie’s Feather Duster
This card is so disgustingly strong that it was sent to the Shadow Realm (well, ban list) for years.
But as of this writing, it’s back, limited to one per deck – and is downright terrifying in a Harpie deck!
Harpie’s Feather Duster is the best Spell/Trap removal in the game right now.
This card simply destroys every Spell/Trap your opponent controls, without a cost or penalty.
But the best thing about Harpie’s Feather Duster in this kind of deck is that you can search it with Harpie’s Feather Storm!
As a whole, this deck is already pretty great at dealing with back row threats. But being able to delete them over and over is a special kind of ability, giving this iconic card the top spot.
