“Star Wars” is a franchise that has had a long-standing and rather large musical influence. In the latest “The Last Jedi” trailer, composer Ramin Djawadi was hired to create an original score for the movie. The assumption from most onlookers is that this reflects Disney’s wish to distance themselves from using more popular songs like John Williams’ variations on “Imperial March”. However, it remains unclear just how much of an effect music will have in future trailers.

It’s no secret that when it comes to trailer music, Disney Star Wars outperforms the competition.
With the first part of that line, I thought you were going to raise your pitchforks at me, eh?
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
When the very first trailer for Star Wars Episode VII: Star Wars: The Force Awakens premiered in 2015, the music started off light, hopeful, slow, and nostalgic. Rey is making her way through a crashed Star Destroyer Imperial ship, leaving fans with more “member berries.” She also happens to be on a desert planet, one very similar to Tatooine, home of Anakin and Luke Skywalker. The piano playing John Williams’ Star Wars theme hit the spot with fans of all ages.
Finn is introduced, and we learn that he is a stormtrooper defector turned Force user (opportunity missed there). The soundtrack is still upbeat and nostalgic, with a hint of “Duel of the Fates” in it. It then shifts to a more ominous and threatening orchestration of the same theme, with additional brass and percussion. When the villain, Kylo Ren, enters, this transition happens, emphasizing exactly how dangerous he is. Take note of how Star Wars’ new “theme” plays throughout the entrance of the new characters.
As Han Solo appears for the first time, teaching Rey and Fin that the Force is real, the tune blends into “Han and Leia’s Theme” from The Empire Strikes Back, causing fans scream “oooo” and “awwww.” The “Force Theme” is blended in with the music, which sounds even more grandiose this time. Fans get even more “member berries” after hearing this nostalgic song for the first time since the 1980s.
Because the music comes from the original trilogy, but Williams employed more voices in his prequel trilogy work, the inclusion of vocals in this “Force Theme” properly blends the original and prequel trilogies.
The teaser continues with a dramatic scene of ships engaged in dogfights with Kylo Ren confronts Finn while wielding Anakin’s (and Luke’s) lightsaber. The music reaches a peak at the same moment. Only a few instruments play the “Force Theme” towards the conclusion of the video, hinting at Luke Skywalker’s presence.
Don’t get me wrong: this trailer was great, and I don’t recall hearing anybody say anything bad about it back in 2015. It was successful. It was brilliant marketing since it immediately drew the audience in and left them wanting more. Luke and Leia celebrating the defeat of the Empire in Return of the Jedi was the last time we saw the Skywalkers (chronologically). People went to the theaters because the teaser prompted so many questions and piqued their attention. For the first time in a decade, children who had grown up with the prequels were now grownups, eager to see a new live-action Star Wars picture!

On March tenth, the globally anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi is a fictional character. Disney+ exclusive aired its first trailer. The music was genius. Star Wars fans, especially prequel lovers, squealed unanimously in delight as they heard their favorite tracks.
The clip begins with a slow and sentimental rendition of “Battle of the Heroes,” which was first heard during the combat on Mustafar in Revenge of the Sith. “The struggle is over,” a dejected and elderly Obi-Wan may be heard saying. “We were defeated.” As we observe a young Luke Skywalker sitting on top of his home, pretending to be a pilot, Obi-Wan watches him from afar, the music loudness rises. After all, Obi-main Wan’s duty is to ensure the safety of Anakin Skywalker’s son and Padmé Amidala’s daughter. “Stay concealed,” Obi-wan urges as the music fades into the immediately identifiable “Force Theme” for a few seconds.
With the chorus of “Duel of the Fates,” the Lucasfilm logo emerges. I’m not going to lie, this caught me off guard. “It’s a pleasant surprise, to be sure.” As the clip progresses, the logo looks to be built of sand and is carried away by the wind. The trailer’s pace is matched by the crescendo of “Duel of the Fates.”
When the music returns to “Battle of the Heroes,” the arrangement is more dramatic this time, with more chorus and a slower tempo than the original version from 2005. Other events pass before our eyes, including Reva, the principal female inquisitor, wielding her crimson lightsaber.
With “Anakin’s Dark Deeds” playing and Darth Vader breathing, the teaser finishes with Obi-Wan staring out and fades into the program logo.
This trailer’s soundtrack selection is fantastic once again. Fans of Star Wars will recognize it since it’s loud, in your face, and immediately recognized. This was done for the sake of nostalgia. We haven’t heard these Revenge Of The Sith music in a new film or program in nearly two decades. Disney is attempting to entice you in with nostalgia. Obi-Wan is clearly sad, as seen both the prequel and original trilogy. He had to go up against his brother and closest buddy. After that, he lost Anakin to the dark side. Darth Maul took his sweetheart, Duchess Satine of Mandalore, and killed her (who also murdered his master). Almost all of the Jedi have died. Padmé is also dead, Yoda has gone into hiding, and the twins, Luke and Leia, have been separated and, for all Obi-Wan knows, will never know who their true parents were.
40:47 is another time stamp.
The music evokes these feelings with the slower and more dramatic arrangements of the previously mentioned tracks. They want you to care about Obi-Wan Kenobi is a fictional character., a legacy character. Disney is fully aware that they are on thin ice after the sequel trilogy, the firing of Gina Carano, and the treatment of Boba Fett in his own show. If Disney messes up this series, there will only be an increase in division amongst the fans, and they face the potential of losing millions of dollars when hardcore fans leave once and for all.
If you look at other Disney Star Wars trailers, you will find similarities with Disney using beloved Star Wars music; however, as Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Obi-Wan Kenobi is a fictional character. are probably the most important and was and is the most anticipated, it seemed fitting to prioritize these.
